On August 10th, Payal Salsburg will present as a panelist for the annual Boston Bar Association’s “Practicing with Professionalism” seminar. She will discuss the common attributes of reputable attorneys. She will also cover how to respond to the pressures of practice that challenge even the most reputable attorneys. This program takes place at the BBA’s offices located at 16 Beacon Street in Boston from 8:30am-5:30pm.
Jessica Conklin and Payal Salsburg co-taught second graders about the law through the Boston Bar Association’s 2017 Law Day in the Schools Program. The students, from Lee Academy in Dorchester, were very attentive and asked fantastic questions about how the legal process works.
Jessica Conklin spoke on an alumni panel at Boston University Academy. She discussed how BU Academy helped her succeed in her career path in law, including lessons learned from her time at the academy.
Payal Salsburg presented at a recent Boston Bar Association program entitled, “Practicing with Professionalism.” Payal co-taught the ethics portion of this all-day program, which covers a range of topics related to professionalism as a lawyer. Her co-presenter was Martin Newhouse, President and Acting General Counsel of the New England Legal Foundation.
The Supreme Judicial Court requires all new lawyers admitted to the Massachusetts bar to take a one-day, in-person course on professionalism. In the ethics section of this day-long class, Payal and Martin used hypothetical scenarios to engage the audience and highlight some of the more common ethical pitfalls when it comes to practicing law in the Commonwealth.
Marc Laredo served as the program chair for a recent CLE at the Massachusetts Bar Association on January 25, 2017. The CLE was titled, “Disputes Among the Owners of Closely Held-Service Businesses.” It covered how disputes among the owners of closely-held service businesses threaten the daily operations and future viability of professional service firms. The distinguished panel discussed the duties of owners to each other and the entity, as well as the accounting perspective both for planning and breaking up service businesses. Finally, the panel discussed remedies for resolving disputes when they do arise, with a particular focus on the benefits of mediation.

Mark Smith presents as a panelist on the Boston Bar Association’s program entitled, “Public Corruption and Government Prosecutions” on Tuesday, November 29th from 5-6pm. Join in a lively discussion on the most recent government trends in investigating and commencing high profile public corruption prosecutions, false claims act investigations and other cases focused on government fraud. Participants will learn about recent state and federal corruption initiatives, the continuing evaluation of mail fraud honest services developments, new trends in false claim prosecutions and the impact of the McDonnell decision on criminal prosecution.
Marc Laredo spoke to an undergraduate class on Entrepreneurship at Northeastern University in a program entitled, “Why Every Business Needs a Lawyer: What Your Lawyer Can Do For You.” In his discussion, Marc shared tips on how to select a lawyer who is a good match for entrepreneurs and their businesses. Marc also covered common issues that require businesses to engage a lawyer at the time of formation and as the business grows.
