Jessica Conklin Presents Title IX Program

Jessica Conklin presents as a panelist for a March MCLE New England program entitled “Emerging Issues in Title IX Compliance, Investigations and Litigation.”  Jessica and her fellow presenters share insights on the many facets of sexual misconduct cases on campus. The program will cover assisting colleges and universities in developing and executing campus policies and processes, gathering evidence and preparing for an investigator interview, investigating claims of sexual misconduct in a fair and impartial manner, navigating the “live hearing” and other technical requirements of the regulations, and responding to charges filed with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR). The panel also addresses the latest court opinions addressing legal challenges to student disciplinary proceedings. Jessica Conklin Publishes Boston Bar Journal Article on Practice Tips for Title IX

Jessica Conklin co-authored an article for the Boston Bar Journal entitled, “Practice Tips for Representing Students in Title IX Proceedings.”  Title IX is a federal statute prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment and it applies to virtually every educational institution that receives federal financial assistance. This article covers the unique challenges of these proceedings as well as processes associated with starting proceedings and managing cases as well as hearings and appeals. Jessica has broad experience working with students and their families in connection with disciplinary proceedings and Title IX investigations.

Jessica Conklin Speaks on Boston Bar Association Panel

Jessica Conklin presented as a panelist for a recent Boston Bar Association virtual program entitled, “Your Path to Success– Finding Your Career Path at the BBA Career Fair and Beyond.” Jessica and her panelists helped students to prepare for participating for the BBA’s inaugural Career Fair taking place on Thursday, October 20 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at District Hall in the Boston Seaport District. The Career Fair provides a space for roughly 150 law students from the BBA’s five partner law schools—in particular, students of color and from historically underrepresented backgrounds—to meet with hiring representatives from small and mid-sized law firms in Boston with practices spanning multiple specialties and industries, including both litigation and transactional practices, outside the traditional OCI process.

Matt Kane is selected for his work in Commercial Litigation again this year, an area he is named for annually since 2017. Matt represents banks and other financial institutions, businesses and individuals in an array of business law matters and disputes concerning consumer finance, employment, construction, real estate and general litigation as part of the firm’s business litigation practice. He also has considerable experience in consumer financial services litigation, including mortgage and title litigation, civil check fraud, and fair debt collection matters.

Marc Laredo is selected again this year for his work in both Commercial Litigation and Employment Law/Management. Marc represents clients in disputes among owners of closely held businesses and a wide array of other business litigation matters including commercial contract cases, business torts, employment and non-competition litigation, government investigations and construction cases. Additionally, Marc serves as counsel to closely held businesses, advising them on issues such as the initial formation and maintenance of the business entity, contract and employment matters, crisis situations and exit strategies.

Payal Salsburg is selected this year for her work in Commercial Litigation and Criminal Defense: White Collar. She focuses her practice in the areas of business litigation, corporate advice and counsel, and white collar criminal defense. She represents corporations, small businesses and individuals in connection with an array of matters including contract and business disputes, False Claims Act litigation, and government and internal investigations.

Mark Smith is selected again this year for his work in Criminal Defense: White Collar. He is also recognized for work in Commercial Litigation, Closely Held Companies and Family Business Law. Mark is retained by businesses and individuals during all stages of criminal and other government enforcement actions. National law firms also choose Mark to handle a wide range of Massachusetts-specific litigation and regulation matters as outside counsel on behalf of their clients.

Jessica Conklin is selected to the Ones to Watch list this year in the area of Commercial Litigation and Criminal Defense: White-Collar. Jessica concentrates her practice in white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and school disciplinary hearings. Jessica Conklin Moderates White Collar Crime Conference Program

Jessica Conklin is moderating a panel for the Boston Bar Association’s White Collar Crime Conference on Thursday, May 5th at the Aloft Hotel in Boston. She is joined by leaders in the industry from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Criminal Bureau of the MA Office of the Attorney General, and White Collar Crime attorneys to discuss Charging and Sentencing.

Leaders from across the state, including law firm defense counsel, government prosecutors, in-house counsel, judges, and industry professionals come together in person for this signature event to get timely guidance and analysis on recent white-collar crime cases and practice developments.
