Matt Kane is selected for his work in Commercial Litigation again this year. Matt has been named annually since 2017, a true testament to his work in this area. Matt represents banks and other financial institutions, businesses and individuals in an array of business law matters and disputes concerning consumer finance, employment, construction, real estate and general litigation as part of the firm’s business litigation practice. He also has considerable experience in consumer financial services litigation, including mortgage and title litigation, civil check fraud, and fair debt collection matters.

Marc Laredo is selected for his work in both Commercial Litigation and Employment Law/Management. Marc represents clients in disputes among owners of closely held businesses and a wide array of other business litigation matters including commercial contract cases, business torts, employment and non-competition litigation, government investigations and construction cases. Additionally, Marc serves as counsel to closely held businesses, advising them on issues such as the initial formation and maintenance of the business entity, contract and employment matters, crisis situations and exit strategies.

Mark Smith Elected Chair of Massachusetts Court Management Advisory Board

Mark Smith was elected Chair of the Court Management Advisory Board. The Massachusetts Legislature formed the Court Management Advisory Board (CMAB) to assist the justices of the supreme judicial court, the chief justice of the trial court, and the court administrator on all matters of judicial reform.  The CMAB has ten members who are appointed according to categories of experience, including business administration, civil law, criminal law, and information technology, in addition to the attorney general or designee, and the executive director or the Massachusetts office of victim assistance.

Mark Smith Appointed to Court Management Advisory Board

We proudly announce that Mark Smith was recently appointed by the Supreme Judicial Court to the Court Management Advisory Board (CMAB)for a three-year term. Consisting of approximately a dozen members from diverse backgrounds in law, business and academia, the CMAB plays a critical role in guiding and supporting the Massachusetts Trial Court in its transformation to a system grounded in managerial best practices and data driven decision-making.

Mark Smith Presents as Panelist to Discuss Public Corruption and Government Prosecutions

Mark Smith presents as a panelist on the Boston Bar Association’s program entitled, “Public Corruption and Government Prosecutions” on Tuesday, November 29th from 5-6pm. Mark Smith Elected President-Elect of The Boston Bar Association Council

Boston, MA, July 24, 2016 – Mark Smith, an attorney who focuses his practice in white-collar criminal defense and government investigations at Laredo & Smith, has been elected to serve as the President-Elect of the BBA Council. The Council is the BBA’s governing body and as a member, Mark will act as a representative of the Association. He will help the organization further its’ mission to provide tools, relationships and opportunities to develop successful careers and practices for its members. Mark will serve a one-year term, which begins on September 1st.

Mark’s role as the Vice President of the Council furthers his long-time support of the BBA. He is the past Chair of the Education Committee in addition to being a member of the Executive Committee. He has also served as Secretary of the BBA Council, Co-Chair of the BBA’s Criminal Law Section, and as a member of the Law Day Steering Committee and the BBA’s Committee on Rule 3:16: Practicing with Professionalism Course for New Lawyers.

About Mark Smith
Mark is a partner at Laredo & Smith, LLP where he focuses on white-collar criminal defense and government investigations. Prior to entering private practice, Mark served for eleven years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office including as Chief of the Public Integrity Division and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Bureau. Mark began his legal career in New York City, where he worked as a public defender for four years. He also clerked for the New York State Supreme Court. Mark is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and Suffolk University Law School.
