Jessica Conklin and Payal Salsburg present On-Demand White Collar Criminal Defense Program

Jessica Conklin, Senior Counsel at Laredo & Smith, moderates a conversation entitled, “Related Aspects of Prepping Trials in the Remote World” for the 2021 White Collar Crime Conference to be held virtually on February 4th 2021 by the Boston Bar Association. Partner Payal Salsburg will present as a speaker alongside Kathleen Shields, Senior Trial Counsel for the SEC and Elysa Wan, the Assistant US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. The panelists will talk about depositions, proffers and hearings in a virtual world. They will also cover everything from client preparation and building trust to tools attorneys may use for the most effective virtual presentations.

This program will be available on-demand during and after the virtual conference, and can be accessed after registering for the overall conference.

Jessica Conklin Appointed to White Collar Crime Conference Steering Committee

Jessica Conklin was appointed to the Boston Bar Association’s Steering Committee for its annual White Collar Crime Conference. This conference is known for it’s top level speakers who are knowledgable practitioners and collaborators in this unique area of law. Annually, it draws members of the white-collar defense bar, government prosecutors, in-house counsel, judges and corporate professionals. These professionals come together for the most up-to-date guidance, education and analysis of recent cases and best practices.

Jessica Conklin Publishes Boston Bar Journal Article on the Criminal Justice Reform Act

Laredo & Smith senior counsel attorney Jessica Conklin authored and published an article in the prestigious Boston Bar Journal covering the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Reform Act. The act made sweeping changes in the areas of bail, juvenile justice, diversion from prosecution, and reentry services and established a statutory right to medical parole for all eligible inmates. Jessica Conklin Named Senior Counsel to Firm

The firm proudly recognizes attorney Jessica Conklin‘s excellent legal work and client service through her recent elevation to Senior Counsel.  Jessica joined the firm in 2011 as an Associate and continues to develop her practice in white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and school disciplinary hearings. Jessica has a specific expertise in working with students and their families who attend several local secondary schools, colleges and universities in connection with disciplinary proceedings and title IX investigations. Jessica Conklin Elected to Board of Directors for the Center for Artistry and Scholarship

Attorney Jessica Conklin was recently elected to the board of directors for the Center for Artistry and Scholarship (CAS), an organization whose mission it is to develop and support innovative leaders in education so that they may build more equitable, collaborative and creative communities.

In her role, Jessica will work with other members of the board to support CAS as they further their mission to provide leadership coaching, transition planning, board development, fundraising and stewardship and community partnership cultivation. As a true advocate of the organization’s work, she proudly contributes to CAS ability to engage with nationally-recognized partners, proving the efficacy of an arts-infused curriculum.

Jessica is particularly proud to be a champion of the Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership (PSi). This initiative is driven to develop a network of adaptive leaders who champion racial justice and equity, and integrate artistic and design thinking, and educational and community-based resources to transform the lives of youth and families.

Conklin Presents BBA Program: Representing Students in Title IX Proceedings

Jessica Conklin presented on a panel covering the special considerations of representing complainants and respondents in sexual misconduct proceedings in high school, college and university settings. The group will cover:

  • fact gathering
  • preparing your client for an interview or hearing
  • handling a parallel criminal and civil matter
  • trauma informed advocacy
  • preserving issues for subsequent civil litigation
  • recent due process court decisions

Super Lawyers Recognizes Laredo & Smith Attorneys

Laredo & Smith is pleased to announce that many of the firm’s attorneys are named to Super Lawyers for 2019. Marc Laredo, Mark Smith, Matt Kane, Payal Salsburg, and Jessica Conklin are all named to the 2019 Super Lawyers list in the following categories:

Super Lawyers is a rating service for lawyers from more than 70 practice areas. To be included in the list, attorneys must attain a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Rising Stars are selected using the same criteria as Super Lawyers, but each attorney must be either 40 years old or younger, or in practice for 10 years or less. This recognition is awarded to no more than 5% of lawyers in the state.

Jessica Conklin Presents on BBA Career Panel

Jessica Conklin presented as a panelist for the Boston Bar Association program, “Career Focus: Transition between Government and Private Practice.”  The program, sponsored by the White-Collar Crime section, featured both private practice attorneys and members of the US Securities & Exchange Commission and the US Attorney’s Office. The panel discussed the transition between public and private practice as well as the benefits and drawbacks of such a shift.

Attorneys Volunteer to Teach for Boston Bar Association’s Law Day in Schools Program

Jessica Conklin and Payal Salsburg  volunteered their time to co-teach fourth graders about the law through the Boston Bar Association’s 2017 Law Day in the Schools Program. The students from Samuel Adams Elementary School will attend a lesson entitled, “Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy.”
