Boston Magazine named 5 Laredo & Smith lawyers to the 2023 Top Lawyers List. The firm’s honored lawyers include:

To compile the list, Boston Magazine invites Boston-area lawyers to nominate up to three of their peers in a select number of specialties. The top vote-getters in each specialty are reviewed by an advisory board of select lawyers and ultimately chosen for their credentials and the high number of votes they received.

Payal Salsburg Quoted in Mass Lawyers Weekly Article

Partner, Payal Salsburg, was recently quoted in an article entitled, “In family business dispute, appraisal right deemed waived” which was published in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s April 7th issue.  According to the article, the case provides warns attorneys to be familiar with documents controlling the purchase of equity, especially when there are multiple integrated agreements.

Payal is quoted in connection with Judge Salinger’s decision, saying it is “a lesson on the best way to draft amendments to an agreement, said Payal Salsburg of Boston. If a contract provision has seven “sub-provisions” and only one is being changed, it still may be best to strike the provision in its entirety and then incorporate any language being retained into the new provision, she said. Failure to do so just creates unnecessary complications when it comes time to interpret the language.”

Payal Salsburg is quoted in a Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly article, “Snap Judgements: Local Lawyers Offer Issues to Watch for in 2023” on December 30th:

In the area of business litigation, courts across the commonwealth will continue to grapple with applying the anti-SLAPP statute to dismiss claims that may be based on petitioning activity. Given the number of cases in the Superior Court and the Appeals Court in 2022 that deal with this issue, the SJC may have to again clarify the correct application of the standard first set out in Duracraft Corp. v. Holmes Prods., Corp. (1998), and subsequently augmented by 447 Harrison Ave., LLC v. JACE Boston, LLC (2019), and Blanchard v. Steward Carney Hosp., Inc. (2019).”

Laredo & Smith Named to 2023 Edition of Best Law Firms

Laredo & Smith, LLP is pleased to be named a Metropolitan Tier 1 firm in Boston for Commercial Litigation and Criminal Defense/White Collar. The firm is also listed as a Metropolitan Tier 2 firm in Boston for Closely Held Companies and Family Business Law as well as Employment Law/Management.

Darshana Indira Joins Laredo & Smith

Laredo & Smith is pleased to announce the firm has added Darshana Indira as a Senior Associate to the firm. Brendan Cox Chosen as Faculty for Harvard Law Workshop

Brendan Cox has been invited to serve as a faculty member of Harvard Law School’s 2022 Fall Trial Advocacy Workshop. This workshop is for law students and is taught by practicing attorneys and judges. The curriculum addresses all aspects of a trial practice for students and culminates with participation in two mock trials that provide an opportunity for honing critical litigation skills in real-world scenarios. This program requires intensive study, preparation, and activity to enable the development of essential litigation skills in an engaging and fun environment for law students enrolled at Harvard Law.

Matt Kane is selected for his work in Commercial Litigation again this year, an area he is named for annually since 2017. Matt represents banks and other financial institutions, businesses and individuals in an array of business law matters and disputes concerning consumer finance, employment, construction, real estate and general litigation as part of the firm’s business litigation practice.
