Payal Salsburg Moderates South Asian Bar Program on Job Hunting in a Pandemic

Laredo & Smith Partner, Payal Salsburg is moderating a July 29th virtual program entitled, “Job Hunting & e-Networking During a Pandemic.”  for the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston. The interactive program features three law firm professionals who will share effective ways to navigate uncertainties surrounding finding a job and making meaningful connections with people from a distance. Payal and her panelists will engage in an informative discussion about how new law graduates and junior/mid-level lawyers may make the most of their efforts to land a new job and expand their networks.

Jessica Conklin Elected to Board of Directors for the Center for Artistry and Scholarship

Attorney Jessica Conklin was recently elected to the board of directors for the Center for Artistry and Scholarship (CAS), an organization whose mission it is to develop and support innovative leaders in education so that they may build more equitable, collaborative and creative communities.

In her role, Jessica will work with other members of the board to support CAS as they further their mission to provide leadership coaching, transition planning, board development, fundraising and stewardship and community partnership cultivation. As a true advocate of the organization’s work, she proudly contributes to CAS ability to engage with nationally-recognized partners, proving the efficacy of an arts-infused curriculum.

Jessica is particularly proud to be a champion of the Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership (PSi). This initiative is driven to develop a network of adaptive leaders who champion racial justice and equity, and integrate artistic and design thinking, and educational and community-based resources to transform the lives of youth and families.

Payal Salsburg Presents to the Health Care Compliance Association

Partner, Payal Salsburg, will present to members of the Health Care Compliance Association. Her program is entitled:  “Q1-Q2 2020 Enforcement Trends and What They Mean For Your Company”. During the July 15th discussion, with her co-presenter, Payal will cover:

Understanding the New Regulations Governing Title IX for Colleges and Universities

On May 6, 2020, the United States Department of Education released new regulations governing the application of Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational institutions. These regulations become effective on August 14, 2020. Although these regulations also govern the application of Title IX at elementary and secondary schools, this alert focuses on the impact in the college and university setting.

Mark Smith Elected Chair of Massachusetts Court Management Advisory Board

Mark Smith was elected Chair of the Court Management Advisory Board. The Massachusetts Legislature formed the Court Management Advisory Board (CMAB) to assist the justices of the supreme judicial court, the chief justice of the trial court, and the court administrator on all matters of judicial reform.  The CMAB has ten members who are appointed according to categories of experience, including business administration, civil law, criminal law, and information technology, in addition to the attorney general or designee, and the executive director or the Massachusetts office of victim assistance.

Payal Salsburg Presents Force Majeure Webinar To In-House Counsel

Payal Salsburg is presenting a webinar through the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts (AALAM) to a group of In-House Counsel entitled, “Force Majeure: What it Means for Your Company During the COVID-19 Crisis.” The webinar takes place on Tuesday, May 26th from 4-5pm via Zoom.

During the webinar, Payal will explain how force majeure may give companies some relief for non-performance without penalty when unforeseeable circumstances arise, as well as discuss a few examples of force majeure clauses typically seen in commercial contracts. Payal will also answer questions as to the interpretation and implementation of force majeure clauses.
