Attorney Conklin Moderates Panel on Drafting and Negotiating Contracts

Jessica Conklin moderated a panel for the Boston Bar Association on April 18, 2018 entitled, “Drafting and Negotiating Contracts.” In this program, the esteemed panelists spoke on the “must-haves” in every contract, best practices in negotiations, key issues for drafting and the typical pitfalls and traps. The panel also covered some of the softer skills that go into skillfully negotiating a contract for a client, including managing different personality types and deescalating intense negotiations. The program was sponsored by the Senior Associate Forum and the Business Transactions Section.

Laredo & Smith lawyers Jessica Conklin and Payal Salsburg continue to be active in the Boston Bar Association’s educational programming.  They most recently presented as panelists for the BBA’s program entitled, “Practicing with Professionalism,” which took place on February 9th. Jessica & Payal discussed important attributes of reputable attorneys and also covered how to handle the pressures of practice that challenge even the most reputable attorneys. This program also offered super networking for new admittees, with the chance to meet established members of the bar. This program took place at the BBA’s offices located at 16 Beacon Street in Boston.

They discussed important attributes of reputable attorneys as well as how to respond to the pressures of practice that challenge even the most reputable attorneys. Kane and Conklin Present as Panelists for Boston Bar Association

Laredo & Smith attorneys, Matthew Kane and Jessica Conklin, present as panelists for the upcoming Boston Bar Association program entitled, “Taking and Defending Depositions 202.” The event takes place on November 8, 2017 from 12:30-1:30pm at 16 Beacon Street in Boston.

The panel will discuss practical skills for attorneys. The panel will cover the following topics for taking depositions:

  • Purpose driven depositions
  • Using exhibits: when, why, and how
  • Critical listening
  • Staying on track with your strategy
  • Suspending v closing a deposition
  • Effective use of court reporter

The panel will also discuss defending depositions, covering the following topics:

  • Stipulations
  • Properly using objections/ raising privilege issues
  • Controlling the deponent
  • Use of caucus/ breaks
  • Handling difficult opposition counsel

Laredo & Smith Attorneys Support BBA’s Law Day in the Schools Program

Jessica Conklin and Payal Salsburg co-taught second graders about the law through the Boston Bar Association’s 2017 Law Day in the Schools Program. The students, from Lee Academy in Dorchester, were very attentive and asked fantastic questions about how the legal process works.

Jessica Conklin Launches Boston Associates’ Networking Group Website

Jessica L. Conklin, co-founder of the Boston Associates’ Networking Group (BANG), is proud to announce the launch of the group’s new website, www.bang-law.com. Jessica and fellow co-founder Hannah T. Joseph of Beck Reed Riden launched the site on March 8, 2016.

The dynamic pair of lawyers launched BANG with the goal of bringing together associates from different small- and medium-sized firms, as well as in-house legal departments. The organization offers an environment for junior attorneys to support one another while exploring opportunities for professional, personal and business development.  They meet regularly to discuss a variety of issues that face young lawyers as they establish their practices.

Started in the end of 2015, BANG has grown to include members from more than 20 firms and companies in the Greater Boston Area. The website, which provides member associates with a distinct and close-knit network, visibility, and other resources, will play an integral role in the organization’s model moving forward.

Jessica Conklin Co-Founds Boston Associates’ Networking Group

We are pleased to announce that Laredo & Smith attorney, Jessica Conklin, has co-founded the Boston Associates’ Networking Group with Hannah Joseph of Beck Reed Riden. The Boston Associates’ Networking Group brings together associates from Boston-area small- and medium-sized law firms to network, collaborate and learn more about practicing law as an associate. The founders saw a need to find a means for developing relationships among associates at similar-sized firms and to discuss a range of issues that often arise while practicing law.

The first Boston Associates’ Networking Group lunch was held at noon on December 10, 2015 at the offices of Laredo & Smith, LLP, at 101 Federal Street, Suite 650, in downtown Boston.  This week’s networking lunch is co-sponsored by Laredo & Smith, LLP and Beck Reed Riden LLP.
