Nancy Johnsen is a corporate attorney who represents businesses and entrepreneurs in connection with both operational and strategic legal matters. Her experience includes corporate law, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, fund management and formation, public company reporting, contracts, data privacy and security and mediation and insolvency. Nancy works with early stage, mid and late stage start-up companies as well as established public and private companies. Over her the span of her career, she has counseled clients across several industries including non-profit, private equity, real estate, retail, restaurant, healthcare tech and technology.
Clients appreciate Nancy’s practical, hands-on style to handling business issues. She is collegial yet analytical, using her deep background in the operational, financial and planning aspects of businesses to adeptly explain how legal decisions effect businesses on a larger scale. Nancy began her private practice with an Am Law 100 firm, where she handled insolvency matters, corporate formation, fund formations, equity investments, IPOs, and mergers & acquisitions. Prior to her legal career, Nancy gained broad finance, planning and operational experience, holding multiple roles at a real estate development and management company with commercial, residential, institutional, historic, and development portfolios.
Prior to returning to private practice, Nancy served as in house counsel to a global enterprise software company. In this role, she counseled senior management on legal and business issues related to business relationships, operations, policies, compliance, and matters of first impression for the company.
Nancy is also a professionally trained pastry chef who trained at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts and worked for America’s Test Kitchen. Nancy maintains a deep interest and involvement in the food and restaurant business and is involved in Boston area food policy and entrepreneurship groups. She has participated in a number of community, arts and social enterprise organizations through board memberships and volunteer coaching.
Nancy is a cum laude graduate of Harvard College in Cambridge, MA, where she earned Bachelor’s degree Sociology. She holds a Master’s of Science in Finance from the Boson College Carroll Graduate School of Management, and a JD, cum laude, from Boston College Law School. While at BC Law, Nancy was Co-Chair of the Board of Student Advisors.
